Swiss manufacture is introducing the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon Moon, the first timepiece of the maison to combine a moonphase display and a tourbillon.

The new timepiece also features a pink-gold case and a peripheral date display.

Jaeger-LeCoultre , one of the doyens of traditional luxury watchmaking, combines the moon phase and Tourbillon functions with the skip date feature with its new Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon Moon model.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon Moon is housed in a 41.5 mm Le Grand Rose Gold case.

This red-gold alloy is characterised by its strong colour, which notably does not fade over time.

The case is polished on all sides, and features long lugs as well as a slim bezel.

The case is water-resistant to 5 bar or a depth of 50 m.

The set of function are useful for everyday wear, making this watch more versatile and appealing, even as a unique piece collection.

The “eggshell-white” dial bears arrow-shaped applied gold indexes, which have a different shape depending on their position.

The dauphine hands pick up the appearance of the indices and stand out against the clear background.

The upper half of the dial is dominated by the moonphase display. ‘

This reflects the phases of the moon in both the northern and southern hemispheres.

In addition, the two-sided hand indicates the Age of the Moon.

Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon Moon combines a set of functions never used together before by Jaeger-LeCoultre: the tourbillon and the moon phase, adding the brand’s peripheral date indication.

Meanwhile, in the lower half of the dial is the tourbillon, which also serves as a seconds display.

The tourbillon cage is made of titanium and is secured by a redesigned bridge in polished pink gold.

Furthermore, the wide opening provides transparency and light.

The tourbillon can also be viewed from the back through the sapphire crystal caseback.

The new model is powered by the Jaeger-LeCoultre Caliber 983, designed and produced in-house by the brand.

The automatic movement, which has hours, minutes, seconds, jumping date and Tourbillon features as well as a comprehensive moon phase display, operates at a frequency of 4Hz (28.2800vph) and offers a power reserve of 45 hours when fully wound.

In addition to its operating frequency, which can be considered high for a Tourbillon, the caliber, which is installed with a full-length solid gold rotor in skeletal form instead of micro, can be viewed with pleasure through the glass case back.

On the periphery, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon Moon displays the date.

As with the Master Control Calendar presented in spring 2020, the manufacture integrates the “jumping” date.

The date hand jumps 90 degrees from the 15th to the 16th, so as not to obscure the tourbillon.

Jaeger-LeCoultre opted for gold dauphine hands for time indication.

The faceted hands present a polished side and a brushed side. Further decoration of the dial is realised with the brand’s logo, in gold, applied on the right side of the dial. Jaeger-LeCoultre was printed in black below the logo.

Other decorations on the caliber include Geneva stripes, blued screws, circular grains and bevelled bridges.

As with all Jaeger-LeCoultre timepieces, this model has an eight-year warranty.

In addition, the watch has the in-house “1,000 Hours Control” certificate, which is intended to attest to the high quality of the timepiece.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra-Thin Tourbillon Moon Ref. Q1692410 comes with a hand-stitched brown alligator strap and 18K Le Grand Rose gold folding buckle.

While on paper the multitude of details and decoration might appear overwhelming.

The gold and polished elements make a pleasant contrast with the matt egg-shell coloured dial.

The legibility and reading precision is excellent for these reasons, the details being helpful and not tiresome.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 983 displays centrally hours and minutes, seconds on the one-minute tourbillon, peripheral ‘jumping’ date (from the 15th to the 16th) and moon phases in both Hemispheres and age-of-moon indicator.

The movement features only 45 hours of power reserve, from 48 at the 978, due to the added complications.

As expected, the details of the decorations are exquisite. Jaeger-LeCoultre has always taken good care of the finishes.

A classic set of decoration with nice integration of the brand’s branding, for instance on the logo with skeletonised JLC logo.

The Ultra Thin collection from Jaeger-LeCoultre is complex and beautiful.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon Moon illustrates the best classical representation of the Grande Maison.

The watch holds a good set of features: date, moon phase and a charming tourbillon.
